How to Create a Drop-down list in Microsoft Excel

With the help of this article, I will show you, how you can create a drop-down list in Microsoft Excel. So, follow below some the of simple and very steps to know more about this function of MS Excel.

The Drop-down list is very helpful in many ways, for example, if you want to create a list of any category then instead of typing their values you can fetch this by just using the Drop-down list function.

Create a Drop-down list in MS Excel

Step 1: In the very first step, you need to open your saved spreadsheet or create dummy data to perform this function or test this function.

Step 2: In the second step, go to the other spreadsheet and create the list of items that you want to appear in the drop-down list.

Step 3: Now, go to the first spreadsheet and select any cell as I have selected B2.

Step 4: Now, go to the Data tab, and in this go to the groups of Data Validation and simply click the Data Validation.

Step 5: Then after clicking on this a dialog box will appear in your screen, on this, you need to select List in Allow box.

Step 6: After clicking on List, go to the spreadsheet where you have created an items list and select your items like as shown below image.

Step 7: Now, hit the OK and see below the result.

Now, if you want to add or remove the items from your drop-down list then follow below the simple steps.

Step 8: If you want to add items to your list then go to the items list and select any item.

Step 9: Click on the Right button of your mouse, and click the Insert option.

Step 10: Now, click on the Shift Cell Down and hit OK.

Step 11: Now, enter the new item and hit Enter, in my case I have entered Oranges, below see the result.
